Hungry for Change - Most people have no idea what’s in the products they eat. Cancer, Diabetes, Allergies etc…. are all results of what we put into our bodies.
Whether it’s the high amounts of sugar in our drinks, hormones in meat, the aspartame, MSG and other E-numbers that are hidden in our food to the horrible chemicals that are sprayed onto our fruit and vegetables… we consume a lot of artificial chemicals that are simply causing damage to the body. The pharmaceutical industry is loving it though…
If you’re not aware, this documentary is the first step in becoming more aware of what you put in your body.

DANCE HEURISTICS [HOW WE LEARN TO DANCE]

The mind controls the body. Any external command in relation to movement is first processed by the brain. You assess the movement (via the concrete experience and reflective observation,) comprehend the movement (via abstract conceptualization) and then execute your understanding of the movement quality (via active experimentation.) This cyclical process is what we call “dance heuristics” or how the brain processes movement while learning choreography.

Most dance classes today do not address the dancer’s learning process. Opting instead to canonize or deify the choreographer for their hot moves, resume and choreography. This has inculcated dancers with a surfactant view of dance, groove and kinesthetics.

Dancers must be encouraged to see the value in expanding their mind in order to enhance their skill as a dancer. Knowing where a movement emanates from. What is the resolution of said movement? What is the origin of this movement historically?

Many dancers say they’re taking it to the next level. Yet how can we take something to the next level when we’ve never explored it’s intricacies enough to know it intimately?

To truly create change and become great at what you do, you must STUDY your art. Not go to four different choreographers’ classes who all have similar styles that make you feel comfortable. Train your brain, and your body will follow. Challenge yourself! Take a class where you feel uncomfortable. Where you don’t get the choreography. Where a choreographer understands their role as a teacher and can inform you of tangible areas of improvement.

Learn anatomy & physiology, kinesiology, dance theory, music theory and more, in order to supply the answers to the questions you have about dance that most choreographers are unwilling or often unable answer.

i.e: Counting. (how to, why we do, why is it important?)

Boom Kat and the various sundry of terms used by choreographers are not counts. It’s their individual modality and how they connect rhythmically to the accompaniment. Yet it is not a codified method of keeping placement within a piece.

    Which boom? Which kat?

Learn to embrace “thinking” while dancing. ;-)
